WHAT WE DO

Set within the Heart of Newhaven Community Hub (HoNC), IoM offers courses, resources, studio space and support to professional artists and beginners alike.

Our well equipped studio is housed on the first floor in the former Victoria Primary School on Newhaven Main Street.

We provide open access to screen printing, textiles equipment and resources with expert technical support as required.

We offer a range of classes and short courses for small groups alongside bespoke training and subsidised opportunities. Classes can be a ‘one off’ learning experience or a progression route to more advanced skills, creative practice and membership.

This studio launch was funded by creative Scotland crowdmatch and crowdfunder UK.

WHO WE ARE

Lorna Brown, the founder of INK on MESH Studio, is an experienced artist and educator. With 25+ years as a professional maker, business owner and lecturer in the creative industries she brings an extensive portfolio of skills to this venture and shares her strong vision for all that the IoM studio offers.

‘Post - pandemic, spaces that promote and encourage self-expression, connections, confidence building and wellbeing through creativity are needed more than ever.’ IoM studio will create access to classes, space and specialist screen print and textile equipment , allowing more people to grow their skills and express who they are …connecting and growing a community is at the heart of IoM’s manifesto.

As the studio evolves, my aim is to offer employment opportunities for freelance creative practitioners. Professional artists/designers with complementary skills will join the IoM team and ‘A list’ guest tutors are lined up to bring exciting new classes to the learning program in 2023.

Guest Tutors to date: Cass Barron of Bookbinding with Cass and Abi Nicoll of Blue Cat Clothing.

Lorna continues to exhibit, collaborate and run her own design brand Blessed Unrest, a print design and home interiors Studio.

  • I learnt new things and realised a creative part of me longing to get out. Lorna is fun, very creative and a patient teacher. Also met a great bunch of people and had some fantastic cushions and a lamp shade at the end of the course to show for it!

  • Screen printing had been one of the things I’d wanted to have a go at for years and Lorna’s recent Mark Making workshop was the third one of hers I’ve attending. I love the professionalism of her workshops and the way she encouraged me to translate my very rough ideas into lovely finished pieces.

    Dorcas Robertson

  • I have attended many of Lorna’s workshops - and I keep coming back! I love leaving a class with samples, products and new ideas. I would highly recommend - go for it!

    Katie Miller

  • Lorna is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient teacher and is generous with her materials and facilities. The small classes allow for lots of individual attention. Can thoroughly recommend.

    Lynda Wilson

  • The experience lived up to our high expectations. We loved it and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a creative boost!
